Re: First seven games

This is the thing for me, this “ sideways and backwards “ passing is played by a number of teams, the trouble is, it will only have to happen once in a match for some people to jump on it. Some “ supporters “ can’t wait to be negative and that’s not aimed specifically at you Til

re " Birmingham away
W.B.A. home
Sheffield Utd away
Preston home
Leeds home
Ipswich away
Middlesboro home

That’s as tough as it gets, if we can get ten points from that lot we’ve done well "

Always difficult to predict how things will go, but ref Birmingham - well we now know that wasn't so difficult, we should have had all three points. West Brom and Sheff Utd both lost at home and Preston only narrowly beat relegation candidates QPR at home. Leeds to be fair did very well v Stoke but Ipswich were lucky to get a home draw against newly promoted Blackburn, and Middlesborough were outplayed at Millwall, only rescuing a draw deep into injury time. And they are now about to lose Traore as well as Gibson.

Five points from the first seven games. we'll be exploited in our left and right back positions, and Farke will not be sure of his best players or structure until we're a few games into the season. We'll end up mid-table but will score a few more goals this time around

Just took a look through this thread and looks like your prediction is going to be the nearest.  Could still end up with eight points of course, but as you said, being exploited on the right has been evident (and has been addressed) - and the best players/structure is evloving.  More goals too.

So....for Middsbro - no exploiting on the right or left, more goals and if we can capture the form of the first twenty minutes against Leeds and make it count, could be a humdigger of a match.

The good news is that we can now see the shape and structure taking form and movement is faster. The foreign players are adjusting to English Championship and the younger players have slotted in really well. There's always the chance we will go backwards again but the potential is there. Too early to think about top 6 but definitely not relegation candidates.

Its interesting to see that not a single club in the Champs has won more than 4 out of the 7 games, surely proof that for the entire division as well as City, 7 games, even 10 games, is way to early to be forming opinions for the whole season.

I agree. Even Christmas is too early to judge a whole season.  You can have a terrible run and be quite low down the table at Christmas and still put a good run together and reach the play offs.

January is the key month for me, it shows if a team is going to make a push up the table if it has been on a bad run - or indeed going to be able to maintain a good run if it has been doing well pre-Christmas, after all you can have a great run up to the end of December and then fall away afterwards, as we have seen over the years.
