Oh dear god. You manage to produce incredible amounts of drivel in a few line posts on here, and that is more than enough for me...seriously, a WHOLE BOOK of your BS?!

I've had one book published with another two to come out this year.
It's preceived as being a "glamour" job-but it isn't. Its hard work-publishers are very demanding and this rubs off on you, the writer-ending up doing longer working days than you ever would have done in a 'proper job', including into the night and at weekends, there is always that nagging feeling at the back of your mind that you could be getting on with the book, must look to do a few thousand more words by bedtime, contact this person, that person, research this, that, and the other...
There is room for writers out there-more and more books are being published, ditto newspapers and magazines, there is also a growing market in writing editorial for websites, as well as opinion and articles etc-look at all the football websites out there looking for contributors, its a way of getting your name in print and a start, just be prepared to be flamed, big time, in the "Comments" piece underneath whatever you write! I did a piece for a website last Spring about why Arsenal, in my opinion, should sell Fabregas that Summer-it was, I think, well written and balanced, but the reaction I got from Arsenal fans, well, you need a thick skin and a secure lock on your front door...
Pete_norw has suggested looking into self publishing and its a good point, it does have quite a lot of respectability about it these days and is a common outlet for lots of new writers. Yes, it costs, but a good company will market your book well and give you support, however, the onus to sell it and market it will be on you, not your publisher.
I would think books relating to poetry and art are in about a competitive market as you can get-but then again, because of that, there will be self publishing opportunities out there for authors who want to write that type of book. Get one of the writing magazines or the Writers and Artists Yearbook, loads of details and contacts in there as regards doing that.
But, most of all, as I was told when I started out, "just write". The world is, apparantly, full of people who say they are writers who have never written or submitted something in their lives-so don't be one of those. Get writing, start submitting and see where it gets you. Its a game of chance as much as anything-there are probably children's authors out there as capable as JK Rowling, who just haven't been in that right place at the right time. Do it!
Woods, Culverhouse, Bowen, Watson, Bruce, Goss, Eadie, Drinkell, Sutton, Crook, Huckerby.
Green, Ryan, Nedergaard, Phelan, Barham, Bellamy, Fleck.

I've had one book published, and have another coming out soon - about whaling (it's going to be a hoot).
I would suggest to anyone looking to get into writing, both fiction and non-fiction, to start a blog of some sort. This will give you valuable practice in getting 'pen to paper' (fingers to keyboard, really) and helps you gain the discipline needed to write on a regular basis. You can also get a good feel as to whether there are people who actually want to read what you have to say. Taking a writing course in the evening is also a good idea, it will help you refine your craft and also keep you writing even when you are fed up with it, as well as the access it will give you to other writers.
As Old Shuck said though, just keep writing things down - even if no one else will ever read them.

My first one is a biogrophy, and it told my life story from life on the family horse farm in Wocesreshire, and went through my life in the Armed Forces, Belfast and Falklands you have to make sure you do not name people who could be offended, do as I did and changed a few names and places but you are entering a section on life stories where you will find it very hard to publish, Un-known Authers such as myself have found it very hard to find a publisher who is willing to take a chance. But bit of advice don't get taken by self publication firms My book has been all over the place and America too, I have a publishing contract offer from America but they want $1000 for 500 copies, and sell them on where ever I can, Ebooks is another way Its an avenue to which I'm now taking via Kindle

Without saying too much we have a family story where one of our family members is a illegitimate son of someone who was famous and high up but this is about 100 years ago. There is no record of this as the women giving birth was advised to not bring their family name into bad light as she was only a servant and it would of been seen as an embarrassment. Can i mention the family that this story involves as they are dead? Obviously there is some decedents but they don't quite have the power that they once had?

Yes it maybe hard to publish it. It is not the main part of the story but when referring to my grandfather i may at time make reference to this story in a subtle way. I also don't currently have time to write this but maybe in a year or so.

No experience with writing books, although I've been told by others I should have a go. I have produced some sculpture's and unique pieces nobody else has ever produced, whether its art is up to the eyes of the onlooker.
Art today is decisively chosen by those who buy art, mostly. I'm involved with organising an arts event this June, we will try and put it into a local context, giving local ratists an oportunity to display theuir art to locals, whilst at the same time celebrating the local unique environment it is displayed within.
I have displayed some of my work with celebs and with people like Walter Bailey,. who's sculptures are like cries in the wind, alive and eroding, slowly.
Art is within us all, given time, materials and inspiration we all are capable of producing art, those who would like to try and challenge this theory can join one of our workshops,

I once painted the Moaner Lisa. A bit like the Mona Lisa only not quite as good! The fact that I used Dulux emulsion slapped on to an old bit of cardboard probably didn't help.
Beware the tides in March!

Interesting and helpful comments above which I would find useful in working out how to write your tale. I wouldn't wish to mess about with the thread but as another has started....
I have an old chum who was a Studio Manager for Granada TV and ran Rolf Harris Shows. When the show finally ended he was presented with a Rolf original which is out of sight in a loft. "You tight git" he thought.. "we paid for the paint(Dulux), the brushes , and all I get is a rubbish kangaroo". Well it took him a long time to get the NHS to surgically remove the Didgeridoo. Stairway to Heaven anyone? hex.
